Journey Optimizer · coordinating messages

Are we sending Laura too many messages?

Laura gets messages from several teams at one shop. On Monday, a newsletter and a cart reminder both arrive. Try an email limit and quiet hours to see which messages arrive, which are delayed and which are blocked in this example week.

Scenario

Try this change

Start with no email limit: Monday brings both the newsletter and the cart reminder. Apply 1 per day and see which is blocked. The button restores the other starting settings so you can compare the same case.

How many marketing emails can she receive?

Earlier sends use up the allowance. The order confirmation sits outside this marketing limit.

What happens to messages sent at night?

Push (app notifications) and SMS between 21:00 and 09:00, using Laura’s time zone.

Does Laura’s profile have a time zone?

In this model, quiet hours do not apply without a time zone.

How many journeys can she enter each week?

A journey is an automated sequence, such as a cart reminder. The entry limit uses priority when journeys arrive together.

Should the more relevant banner take priority?

Here, two banners compete for one slot. A priority score lets you choose one.

Example assumptions

Example week, messages and priorities. The model treats permitted sends as delivered, including delays within the week. It does not simulate delivery failures or a web winner without priority.

Journey Optimizer rules

What each rule decides

In this model, the email limit counts in sending order. The journey entry limit uses priority when journeys arrive together.

The recommendation

Decide which message matters before setting the limit

Agree limits across teams and share them through rule sets. Check which campaigns and journeys use them: reducing volume does not guarantee the most useful message gets through.

  1. 01

    Frequency capping per channel

Set the maximum per channel and communication type in shared rule sets. In this example, transactional messages have a separate category and do not use the marketing allowance.

  2. 02

    Journey capping with priorities

Distinguish the entry limit from the limit on active journeys. This model uses weekly entries: priority decides between simultaneous arrivals but cannot reclaim slots already used.

  3. 03

    Quiet hours that queue

Delay messages that will still be useful at 09:00. Check the profile time zone: in this model, without it the stock alert goes out at 23:30.

  4. 04

    Spacing between sends

Check UTC counter resets and update delays in your configuration. This model simplifies counting: it does not reproduce delivery or counter update delays.
